Question : I am taking 500 MG Metformin and 2 mg Glimepiride twice daily. Am not overweight but have lost several pounds since going on this regimen. Lately have developed nasty sores on lip and surrounding area of skin nearby. Sores resemble cold sores, but do not have any cold symptoms. Can't shave area, and can ill afford to lose more weight. Suggestions, please?

Brief Answer:
Check HbA1c.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I read carefully your concern and understood your query!
Regarding to Diabetes treatment i should recommend to check the HbA1c level that gives information about the median glucose levels during the last 3 months.
If it is under 7% means that the Diabetes is well controlled with this treatment. You should inform if you have low blood sugar levels ( under 70 mg/dl.)
You need a detailed clinical examination to make a diagnosis. It may be a mycotic infection that needs antifungal treatment or a viral infection ( herpes zoster).
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
