Question : I am a 51 year old female in good health, have nasal and chest congestion for approximately 4 days, coughing up lots of thick yellow mucus, sinus pain, general body aches and headache. Was given Augmentin 875/125 at the clinic, condition doesn't seem to be improving much, although I am bringing up more mucus...is this medicine appropriate or do I need to go back to the doctor?

I read your question and i understand your concern. The nasal congestion and mucus with cough and yellowish phlegm is likely a viral respiratory tract infection but no harm in giving augmentin as prophylaxis for treatment. Add some decongestants to the treatment, use advil for inflammation, use home remedies like steam inhalation, use of humidifier, warm comforting beverages like hot herbal te mixed with honey, salt water gargles etc.
