Question : I have anxiety and depression. I was recently prescribed a generic wellbutrin (which I gook over 15 year ago with no problem). But since I started taking it I've had constant nausea. I also take alprazolam for anxiety on an as needed basis. Over the past month I've needed to take it several times a day. I take atoravastin for cholesteral and metoprolol for afib and Pradaxa for blood thinner. I have constant nausea every day and spend more time out of work that in the office. I started counseling gut have only had one session so far. My heart rythm is fine and I was allowed to discontinue the pradaxa. I stopped the wellbutrin after 2 weeks because it was making me sick. My pcp told me to make an appointment with a prescribing psychiatrist in the office where I go for counseling in order to find an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication that will work for me. Do you have any suggestions I can mention? I am 65 and live alone. Up until recently I have been very healthy and happy. Now I can't even make it through the day I have had all sorts of blood work done and there are no signs of infection or inflammation. I can't stand the constant nausea. The only time I feel decent is in the evening before bed time.
Brief Answer:
Escitalopram or sertraline
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.
In my opinion you can be prescribed Escitalopram (lexapro) or sertraline (zoloft). These both are drugs from SSRI group and very well tolerated in many of the patients above 60. They are cardiac friendly also and you can take with other medicines you are taking currently.
You can discuss this with your psychiatrist.
Hope this answer will help, I will be happy to help further.
