Brief Answer:
Please take him in to ER

Detailed Answer:
Hello Jayme,

I can understand why you would be concerned, and no, these symptoms are not normal.

It sounds as though there is some neurological process going on. It could be due to a variety of different neurological or vascular causes, but I am particularly concerned about the extreme headache he is having. Anytime there is a severe new type of headache that a person has not experienced before, they should be checked out promptly.

I strongly encourage him to go to the ER tonight. There, they can do a neurological exam, check him for infection, and do imaging studies if warranted. I do not think he should wait for these symptoms to go away without being checked. And make sure the person who sees him is a physician, rather than a PA or NP.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I provide further information.
