Suggest Remedies For Pain In Ribs While Treating Severe Asthma

Question: Around Thanksgiving a had what seemed to start as a severe asthma attack. It seemed different though, my chest felt very heavy and I wasn't getting much relief from my nebulizer. I still had a heaviness in my chest. It turned into what I think was a viral infection and I started getting pain on the left side of my back under my rib cage. I went to my doctor and she determined that I wasn't in the need for antibiotics. The pain in my back is finally subsiding but I am still feeling pain on the left side of my chest. The pain is high in my chest on the left side and it is pretty much constant. I am also feeling pain in my left breast along my side under my arm and underneath my breast. I don't know if any of this is related but it is becoming quite concerning and I don't what to do to ease the pain. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
The viral infection is what is bothering you.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have very carefully gone through your query and understand your concerns. I feel that I can make out what has happened to you. When you started having the complaints of heaviness of chest and what resembled an attack of asthma, you had already contracted a viral infection. Such a viral infection can affect your pleura which is the outer covering of the lung that separates it from the chest wall. But the problem is that we are constantly inhaling and exhaling, and the pleura gets constantly rubbed-on in the process. Thus the pleura is getting irritated leading to the pain in the various locations that you are describing. The condition is called pleurisy and would subside with the subsidence of the viral infection. You have to be patient. You still need to take nebulizers. Pain medication (anti-inflammatory) like naproxen or ibuprofen should provide some relief.

Please also so get an EKG done to rule out any cardiac problems.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
