Question : My 56 year old son is suffering terribly with his right shoulder. He cannot move or lift it without tremendous pain. He is unable to sleep for the past week. I want to buy him a tens machine but am unsure which kind to get. Some include heat and/or muscular manipulation. Others have ultra-sound. Which would be most helpful? Nothing he has tried (cold and heat) has helped. Thank you.

TENS unit moist heat is most effective for managing chronic [ain. The moist heat ensures better electrical conduction, nerve stimulation, and pain relief. There are also TENS units available which combine ultrasound along with moist heat like Ultra-TENS. Ultra-TENS are also very effective, however, they are more expensive.
