Brief Answer:
Plain amoxycillin alone may not be effective...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

Even though, the first line of treatment for the middle ear infection is amoxycillin, most of the patients are found to be resistant for this drug. Hence, it would be wiser to use a combination of amoxycillin and clavulanate to augment the efficacy, rather than plain amoxycillin alone.

Secondly, you need to take a oral and a nasal decongestant to open up the clogged Eustachian tube. This has to be added with an anti-inflammatory medicine such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, to reduce the pain and inflammation of the middle ear.

Also, do steam inhalation and drink plenty of warm water. This helps in keeping the Eustachian tube patent, reduces the middle ear infection and inflammation.

Do not worry! With the above measures you will definitely get better.

Hope this answers your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.

Brief Answer:
Without a ventilating tube the perforation closes immediately...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

1. Mere puncture of the eardrum without putting a ventilating tube may not relieve the pressure effectively. That's because, the perforation closes after few hours following incision over the eardrum. Aim of treatment should be to relieve the Eustachian tube block.

2. Do not worry about hearing. With appropriate treatment, it would take at least four weeks for the middle ear fluid to drain out. Effective de-congestion of the Eustachian tube can help in draining the middle ear fluid.

3. Please follow the home remedies mentioned in my earlier response. You will definitely get better.

Hope this clarifies your doubts. wish you speedy recovery.
