Brief Answer:
You will need to put antibiotic drops

Detailed Answer:
Hello

The commonest cause for pus discharge from the ear is presence of an infection in the ear associated with a hole in the ear drum.

In most of the patients, if the hole is small, it will close once the discharge stops for 6-8 weeks and needs no further treatment.

However if the hole is big, or if you have decreased hearing, then surgery may be required.

For the time being you can instill antibiotic drops in your ear, provided that you are not allergic to them. in my patients i usually start ciprofloxacin ear drops, 2 drops 4 times a day for 2-3 weeks .

I would also advice you to keep your ear dry and avoid swimming/head bath for at least 2 weeks.

If the discharge does not come down by 5 days, then you will have to meet an ent doctor. He will take an ear swab and send the pus for culture. in this way we can find the causative organism and also the antibiotics to which the organism is sensitive to. Once this is known, you can be started on the appropriate drops.

Take care!
