Question : For the last month or so, every night as I'm falling asleep, I wake suddenly with rapid heart beat and anxiety. I have to calm myself down and then it will dissipate. This can happen 2 or 3 times before I'll fall asleep for good. I'm normal weight, exercise, do not drink alcohol, have a cup or two of coffee a day, and don't smoke. I am, however, under some stress and wondering if this could be the cause. It only happens at night though, which strikes me as odd.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms are not related to any cardiac disorders.
Anxiety seems to be the main cause of your symptoms.
Do just relax and don't worry air!
If your symptoms are persistent, I would recommend performing some tests:
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG to examine heart rhythm trends during this period
- a polysomnography to rule out/in any possible sleep disorders.
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
