Question : I am experiencing daily attack with hive like welts. As soon as I start feeling it coming on I take over the counter Allegra and it usually subsides. But last night it didn't go away. This has been going on for 2 months. What do you think can be the cause?
Brief Answer:
Add another oral antihistamine e.g tab. Cetrizine
Detailed Answer:
hello. thank you for writing to us.
I am Dr. kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have viewed the image.
Hives can be due to several causes, commonly infections( viral, bacterial, fungal, dental etc), food or food preservatives, to certain drugs/ medications (painkillers, antibiotics etc), alcohol etc.
Obviously Allegra alone has not been entirely effective. I suggest you to also take Tab. Cetrizine 10mg once daily in evening in addition to Tab. Allegra 120mg once during the day.
Continue both for 3 weeks. Take treatment daily and regularly. Not only when you start experiencing hives.
Regards
