Posted on Wed, 20 Apr 2016
Question: Hello, about five days ago I was assisting someone lifting our washing machine over and down and I've royally strained my lower back. I have been on ibuprofen about six hundred milligrams about every five hours. It does help but without it, testing myself, the pain reoccurs. Should I continue for a time with ibuprofen or can you advise me on something I can purchase or should I make an appt. with my GP? Thanks, XXXXXXX Wood

Brief Answer:
A muscle sprain likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

The pain in the back that you have that subsides on taking ibuprofen is likely to be due to a muscle sprain. It takes at least 2 weeks to heal if proper rest is provided to the affected muscles. You can continue with ibuprofen and can get an oral muscle relaxant prescribed in case the pain is persistent.
For a better relief avoid bending forwards, do a hot compress in the area thrice a day and apply a local analgesic gel like Volini.

I hope this answers your query.
