Suggest Remedies For Severe Acne Breakouts
Question: Hey Dr,
Just over a week ago now I started to get this really bad acne breakout which hasn't improved on its own but if anything has gotten worse. I have attached pictures to show you what its like. My acne isn't usually very bad at all but I do occasionly get bad breakouts but this one is quite bad. It isn't necessarily painful but it is quite red and inflammed as you can see in the images and I really dislike how it looks. I have started to use a facial cleaner along with special acne toner and moisturer that don't clog pores but it hasn't done much as of yet. What else would you recommend in terms of treatment options? I mainly want to reduce the redness/inflammation from the breakout to start off so its less noticeable and just allow it to heal. I hope you can help me out.

You have grade 2 acne with mild inflammation.
I treat such case with topical benzoyl peroxide 2.5 % cream in night and clindamycin cream in day.
A course of capsule doxycycline 100 mg daily for 15 days is also helpful.
You might require a prescription for these drugs.
Use salicylic acid based face wash.

Thanks for the reply. I acty of Benzoyl Peroxide 5% from a previous outbreak would that be too intense for it since its double the 2.5% and I would just use Benzoyl Peroxide just before bed right?
