Question : My daughter's hair has been falling out badly for over a year now. She's been dealing with the stress of divorce, which the divorce is over now, and with thyroid issues. Every doctor that she's been to basically ignores the hairloss issue. She hasn't felt well in a long while. They discovered a goiter, which proved to be benign. She is more worried about her hair than her other health issues. It used to be soft, shiny and silky, but now it's dry, dull and brittle. You can see her scalp if she pulls the hair apart a little bit. She's tried different products and has taken Bosley hair vitamins. It continues to fall out. What can she do or who can she see who might help her? She's devastated and it's changed her whole personality. She's beginning to not want to go out anywhere except to work. Can you help us? Thank you.

I appreciate your concern regarding to your daughter problem.
If the thyroid function is confirmed to be within the normal ranges than the thyroid is not the cause of the hair loss.
What is important to differentiate in these cases is the type of hair loss. Is that diffuse or are there boldy zones? The last one can be treated with corticosteroids because may be with autoimmune origin. Often anemia can cause hair loss and should be excluded.
I would recommend to see a dermatologist and he can decide than what will be the proper treatment for that kind of hair problem.
