Suggest Remedies For Severe Lower Abdominal Pain

Posted on Fri, 20 Jan 2017
Question: 3 weeks ago I felt some loin pain in right side abdomen and upon USG of KUB, a 4.5 mm renal calculi is detected. Consulted an Urologist and he advised to perform Lithotripsy. Did the same on that day. Was on antibiotic for 4-5 days and asked to comeback after 2 weeks with X-Ray KUB. From day 2 , there was no blood in the urine also earlier pain subsided to great extend. After 15 days I did a follow-up visit with X-Ray. Doctor told me all is well and there are very small calculi may have still present inside kidney so you are having some mild pain. It will subside subsequently and gave " Alkaston Syrup , 15ml twice daily with water" .... now my question is : Is the consultant told me correct thing? as I have still feeble pain sometimes( not always as before). Will the tiny stone pass on it's own ? What should I do post-lithotripsy ? and what should I do to stop recurrence of the stone formation.. Kindly advice

Brief Answer:
Upload your Scan and X-ray reports.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been detected to have a stone of a size of 4.5 mm in your Rlght Kidney and was advised to undergo lithotripsy (E S W L).and have mild pain after LIthotripsy done 3 weeks back

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Where was the stone located ?(Site of the stone)
2) Was it a obstructing stone ?
3) Was there any back pressure changes in kidney (Hydronephrosis) ?

Normally a stone of a size can be expected to pass out through urine spontaneously .However opinion regarding modality of treatment differs from urologist to urologist

As regards your questions I would answer them point to point as detailed below
1) I personally do not suggest E.S.W.L for a stone of a size of 4.5 mm located in kidney and advise expectant treatment and in most of the cases stone pass out spontaneously .I would not make any comment on advise given by other consultant .
2) Yes you can expect to pass the remnant fragments of the stone spontaneously

3) Ensure to drink more water to produce mire urine so that stone fragments will pass out with urine .

1) Drink more water (4-5 ) liters per day .

2)Avoid excessive salt
3) Avoid red meat and milk products
4) Restrict cabbage ,Tomato and spinach

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks a lot Dr. XXXXXXX for your answer. I had uploaded the USG and X-Ray reports. USG is prior to ESWL and X-ray is post lithotripsy. I am not sure it was obstructing stone, but I had some pain sometimes(not unbearable though) while running or while there is urge for urination. So I didn't object to ESWL. Now please let me know what shall I do to completely get rid of pain(very feeble though). And will there be any damage to Kidney by ESWL( my consultant denied any such damage).

Thanks again.
