Question: My 3 year old daughter had a bout of fhe stomach flu that started Thursday night. She vomited for the first time at around 6pm, then again at around 10pm, then again at 2am. We took her to the doctor and we gave her zophran to help her stop throwing up and hydrate. She was tired but didnt vomit anymore on Thursday or Friday. On Friday night, she told us her stomach hurt and has had gas and a few runny stools since. I am concerned because she seems more tired than usual. She has been asking to go to bed earliwr than usual, but seems fine throughout the day. Should i be concerned or is this likely due to the virus?

Brief Answer:
She needs plenty of fluids to drink

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Vomiting leads to loss of water and salts from the body. Unless adequate rehydration is done, salt depletion leads to poor functioning of the muscles and hence she might feel tired. Give her ORS (oral rehydration solution). Check if she is passing urine in same frequency. If the urine frequency is less than normal, medical attention might need to be sought. If urinary frequency is ok, there is no reason to get concerned.

Such episodes of vomiting usually occur due to food poisoning but can also occur due to certain viruses (less frequent) or even some bacteria. But it does not need to be treated with antibiotics and the cause is not important. All you have to do is to properly rehydrate.

Let me know if I could help further.
