Suggest Remedies For Sinus Headache Above The Right Eye

Question: I get bad sinus headaches above my right eye. I have been inhaling atomized water into my sinuses to clear them and to get rid of the headaches. It works well but I get water in my Eustachian Tubes and it decreases my hearing and I try to clear them by moving my jaw without much success. How can I fully clear the tubes so I can hear better & get rid of the bubbles in my ears?

Brief Answer:
Fluid in eustachian tubes/middle ear.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I've experienced what you are describing with water backing up into the ears, too. Your body will eventually clear the fluid in the ear, but the trick is preventing it from getting in there in the first place. The main way to do this is to not blow out, or to blow your nose as gently as possible after irrigation. When you blow your nose, the pressure changes allows fluid to get from your throat up your eustachian tubes into the middle ear. As you've noted, this creates the sensation of bubbles and diminishes hearing.

I don't know how you have been irrigating, but fine mist nasal sprays like Simply Saline give you more control than a nettipot. Ear problems from sinus irrigation can be from irrigating too vigorously.

Once fluid gets in your eustachian tube, try lying on the opposite side, to allow gravity to drain the fluid out of your ear.

I hope this helps. Keeping the fluid out can really be just a matter of fine tuning the technique.
