I read your questions and i understand your concern. ANy prolapsed disc diseases slowly worsens, this sudden stiffness and pain is basically a prolonged and slowly progressing prolapse and entrapping the nerve causing this slowly aggravating pain finally reaching a level where it is unbearable. I would recommend consulting a spine surgeon, let them run some labs, spine MRIs, assess the extent of prolpase and then decide whats next best plan. Physiotherapy, epidural steroids, decompression surgeries with or without fusions can all be put on the table and then chosen from depending on the extent of entrapment neuropathy.
