Suggest Remedies For Swelling In The Hands

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Oct 2017
Question: My hands are VERY swollen. NO knuckles or wrist bone on rt. I have minimal use of rt hand with minimal small motor function; no grip strength. Left is somewhat better. I was diagnosed many years ago & have managed my arthritic pain with otcs. Over the last 6 weeks my hands have been swelling at night. Started gradually on rt hand; some days more/less. Went to clinic; x-rays & two blood tests. x-rays showed arthritis-which you can plainly see; no 'marker' for ra --?? Suggested I see rheumatologist. Since we live in a remote area, nearest specialists are 5 hrs, I decided to wait. Will be returning to 'civilization' in 5 weeks. But hands are getting worse-no relief from swelling. Can I wait?

Brief Answer:
Further evaluation needed but if symptoms. Not a good idea to wait.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. You need to apply hot compress and take pain medication like Aleve (naproxen) as per requirement. It would be advisable to begin treatment as early as possible and therefore if possible, it would be a good idea not to wait for the 5 weeks.

Let me know if I could help further.
