Brief Answer:
Recommendations regarding your reaction.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

If your lips are swollen, and Benadryl 50 mg, taken every 4-6 hours is not helping, then it is time to go in to be seen. The doctor may recommend a shot of corticosteroid followed by several days of oral corticosteroids. This is fairly routine if an allergic reaction is significant enough to cause swelling of the mouth, and is not responding adequately to antihistamines.

I see that you have a history of some anxiety and sometimes corticosteroids can increase a feeling of anxiety or agitation. So be sure to tell the doctor about this problem and he or she may want to be more cautious or conservative about how much of it they give.

Singulair (montelukast) and Zantac (ranitidine) can sometimes be given in addition to the antihistamine (Benadryl or Zyrtec) to help decrease reactions too. These have fewer side effect compared with corticosteroids (Prednisone, hydrocortisone), but corticosteroid work more reliably in most people.

So ... do go in now to be seen.
