Suggest Remedy Foe Pain And Discoloration On Toenail Post Injury

Question : This morning at about 11am a 45lb forest service pack was dropped onto my right big toe. My toe is just a little discolored right at the bottom of my toenail where it meets the skin. It hurts to put any weight on it or to move it or for it to be touched. When any of thoughs are happening the pain is extreme, makes me want to cry. Just sitting here it hurts like a 5. I am icing and elevating and I took Advil and Tramadol (which is prescribed to me for fibromyalgia. ) but the pain is still bad. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Hello,
I have studied your case and you are doing right by applying ice over it. I would recommend you to get x ray of the foot as some time there can be hairline fracture in such injuries. So you should get it x rayed as soon as possible.
If there is a fracture than doctor would like to splint it. It can be done by bandaging toe with near by toe. ( Buddy strapping).
There can be collection of blood below nailbed that is causing discoloration of toe. It is very painful and needs to be evacuated.
Till you go to doctor, do not walk and keep your feet elevated over pillow so that swelling will reduce.
Advil is good for pain killer. Do not do any rubbing or massage.
