Question : Hi, I am scheduled for an Ablation at the end of the month. I am 27 and have had an SVT episode twice a year since I was 22, and have had to go to the hospital for each episode to slow it down. I have also had minor episodes in that time that I have just waited it out and it has slowed down. I know that at least 4 of the episodes happened the day after I have been drinking, and the others have happened randomly. I have been taking metoprolol for the last 3 years or so, mainly taking it when the episodes happen. I have however been taking it pretty regularly the past year. I am scheduled to get the ablation done at the XXXXXXX Clinic which is known for being great in this area. I am still really nervous about the ablation and do not know what to do at this time.

Brief Answer:
You have been recommended the right treatment option.

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

Thank you for talking with us on HCM!

I understand your concern, as it is a normal reaction being nervous and a bit anxious before an invasive procedure, such as a cardiac ablation is.

But you have to know (as Dr. XXXXXXX has already explained), that this is the best option to permanently get rid of the numerous unpleasant episodes of tachycardia and the associated disturbing simptomatology.

A successful ablation procedure, will avoid the need of any subsequent antiarrhythmics prescription.

So, after that, it will not be necessary to take Metoprolol (which may also relatively decrease your physical performance as well).

At the end, I would advise to see the beneficial sides of the procedure, and relieve your anxiety, as you are going to be on highly professional hands.

Wish you a good health!

Feel free to ask me whenever you need! Greetings! Dr. Iliri
