Brief Answer:
More data are needed, get vit.B12 measured...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Before running into final conclusions, I'd like to have more data:
- for how long have you noticed black knuckles/elbow?
- do they itch or any other symptom?
- any history of local trauma prior to getting them black?

Sometimes, vit.B12 deficiencies are associated with black knucles/elbow. I advise to check the level of vit.B12 in the blood at your local lab.

If the results is lower than normal range, then, vit.B12 deficiency is confirmed and should start proper treatment.

Looking forward to have additional data in!

Brief Answer:
Following advice..Can send a picture of black spot

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

That is explaining black knuckles & elbow.

There are different types of anemia, depending on the various elements missing:
- iron
- folic acid
- vit.B12

If you have any lab report, you can send to me for further evaluations.

At this moment, I can only say that the black knuckles & elbow will turn to their normal skin color once the vit.B12 deficiency is corrected (it will turn to normal levels).

You can send a photo of the dark knuckles and elbows for further evaluation!

I advise to be patient and take the anemia medications as per your doctor directions.

There are various home remedies to get them whitened apart applying whitening cream. I usually advise to mix 1 teaspoon of lemon juice with 1 teaspoon of honey once daily. Let it stay for 10 minutes, then scrub with coarse sponge.

You can repeat daily until results. Some of my patients have found it useful in getting their skin whitener.

A mixture of milk cream with Vit.E can also help whitening the skin.

Once again, these are temporary solutions. The permanent solution is when anemia will be resolved.

Wish fast recovery!

Hi back XXXXXXX

No photos received. Can you send them at the following e-mail address:

with subject line: "Attention to Dr.Albana Sejdini"

With regards to medications you are taking, they contain iron and folic acid. I need to know if your doctor asked to measure vit.B12 levels. If yes, I need to know the results.

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Still insist to measure vit.B12 levels...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

I have just received your reports. I was looking at your knuckles and the hyperpigmentation is evident. I still insist to measure vit.B12 levels to see if any deficiency is present. Usually, iron deficiency is also associated with vit.B12 deficiency depending on the cause of anemia. Can discuss this further with your doctor.

To my opinion, everything will be settled once anemia or vit.B12 deficiency is correctly treated and reversed.

Meanwhile, you can try the home remedies as given earlier. They have been effective in my patients. I wish they will be effective for you too.

All the best!
Dr.Albana
