Suggest Remedy For Chronic Constipation When On Oxycontin

Question : Hi, Thank you for your help in advance. I take Oxycontin for chronic back and neck pain. I have chronic constipation due to this. I eat lots of fruit, prunes, dietary fiber, lots of water. I can only have a bowel movement by taking 4 or 5 stimulant laxatives twice a week. I am also a kiney tranplant (14 yrs) so I take lots of meds. I had a colonoscopy 3 yrs. ago and everything was fine. What do you reccomend? Thanks, XXXXXXX

Dear XXXX,

I am Dr. Neel Kudchadkar and I will help you right now.

1. Oxycontin is a medication that is called an Opiate drug.
2. Examples of other opiates are morphine, codeine, pethidine and heroin.
3. These drugs are really troublesome and cause 1) Constipation 2) Addiction.
4. I appreciate that 1) You have a reason (chronic pain) to take oxycontin,
and 2) You have tried your best to relieve your constipation.
5. I strongly suggest stopping oxycontin under medical supervision, gradually
and replacing it with painkillers that do not cause such severe troublesome
side effects. For instance, NSAIDS.
6. I appreciate how tough it is to "quit" Oxycontin.

This is my personal opinion about oxycontin therapy and natural detox.
