default
Posted on Wed, 11 Feb 2015
Question: I have just gotten over a cold for it to come back two weeks later. This time I also came down with thrush as well. The cold only last 2 days and now just a slight post nasal drip. I feel fine expect for this thrush in my mouth. I started taking raw apple cider today. I had this once before and over time went away with really doing nothing this was 4 years ago. BTW I have STD/HIV test 4 years ago and all was negative( The internet can sometimes cause worries where none need be.) My question is am I good with the cider as a cure?

Brief Answer:
Can take apple cider for oral thrush, get to know the cause first...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

1. Can you please provide a picture of the thrush in your mouth? I need to evaluate myself to give a more specific answer.

2. Can you please tell if you have been using antibiotics recently?

3. Have you checked your blood for anemia (complete blood count)?

The most common cause for oral thrush is candida infection. It might be due to antibiotic use (alteration of oral flora due to antibiotics).

I usually advise my patients with the same problems as you to:
- keep a good oral hygiene
- apply anti-fungal gel orally
- apply oral antiseptic spray/solutions containing iodine
- if anemia is present, should treat it adequately
- probiotics are also advised to optimize the normal flora of GI tract (mouth and intestines).

With regards to taking apple cider, it might serve as an oral antiseptic to control oral thrush. However, I still think you need to find out the cause to oral thrush first, then, determine the right treatment strategy.

All the best!

Brief Answer:
Crestor=possible cause to feeling tired&muscle cramps...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

1. As mentioned earlier, the thrush in your mouth is related to antibiotic used 2 weeks ago.

2. Viral infection of upper respiratory tract can be shown with oral thrush too.

3. Weak immunity and vitamin deficiencies can also be another cause.

4. The Crestor use is associated with feeling tired and muscle cramps. I advise to report this issue to your doctor and ask to run following tests:
- measure CRP and CK(creatine kinase) level
- complete blood count
- liver/kidney function test
- measure blood electrolytes level
for further evaluations.

He/she will decide to change therapy or to stop taking Crestor.
All the best!
