Question: Dear Sir,

My grandson is crying inconsolably perhaps due colic pain / gas.

Doctor suggested Colicaid 3 times daily.

Is it OK or can we give Woodwards gripewater or Bonnisan.

His weight at the time of birth was 3.48 kgs and now 4.41 kgs.

He is on breastfeeding. Mother had gestational diabetes.

Please advise medicine

Brief Answer:
Try lactase enzymes

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Colic is the name given to the sharp, intermittent abdominal pains in babies, usually the extreme end of normal crying behaviour in a baby between 3 weeks and 3 months of age. Several theories try explaining its causes. It appears to be caused by different aetiologies, but half of the cases result from Lactase Deficiency and this can be easily treated by simply applying Lactase Enzyme.

Lactase is now available in XXXXXXX as CRYNO drops.
You can apply two drops on baby tongue before every breastfeeding.
Woodward and bonnisan are not useful I wouldn't recommend.
Colicaid can be continued till pain settles.
Try lactase enzymes, it works wonders in colic pain.
Also burp after every feed.
If baby continues to cry it is better to rule out other causes for pain like earpain. This needs clinical examination.
Wishing your child speedy recovery.

Dear Dr XXXXXXX

My grandson motions are 6 to 8 times daily before we started giving Colicaid for crying. Now his motions have drastically came down to almost no motions today.

Sir, it is because of Colicaid?

Could you please advise .

Can we still continue Colicaid.

Is there any medicine for restoring his motions

Please advise

Brief Answer:
Stop colic aid

Detailed Answer:
Yes
It could be due to colicaid.
You need to stop it.
No need to give any other medicines for passing stools.
It should settle in a day or two.
