Suggest Remedy For Dizziness And Nausea While Suffering From Labyrinthitis

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: I have been experiencing dizziness and nausea for over two years. My doctor said I have labyrinthitis and I take stemetil when I feel the dizziness coming on. The Stemetil make the symptoms worse for around an hour and then alleviate the problem. I do have periods of months where I experience no symptoms. My bloods are normal. I have low blood pressure but not too low. My doctor says that this is a condition that I just have to manage. Is there anything else I could do as I find it hard to plan events. I have missed a lot of work days too. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
This needs further evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Labyrinthitis includes hearing loss. Get a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) done.

2. Labyrinthitis is usually self limiting and will not last for two years unless there are recurrent episodes.

3. If you have ear fullness, fluctuating hearing loss and tinnitus in addition to vertigo, this may be Meniere's Disease.

4. If the dizziness is positional, it may be BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vetigo).

5. Vertigo is a spinning sensation. Check if the dizziness is vertigo or imbalance (unsteadiness). A video Nystagmography (VNG) should be done. There are many tests that need to be done under direct observation. Consult an Otoneurologist. This need further evaluation to rule out central (brain related) causes. Anemia (low hemoglobin), gastritis, cervical spine issues, blood pressure and blood sugar fluctuations will also cause dizziness. There also many other rare causes.

6. Upload a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram), a VNG and any clinical observation notes. Try and add more details of your dizziness.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
