Suggest Remedy For Extreme Pain And Swollen Legs After C Section

default
Posted on Sat, 17 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, my wife went through a c section delivery on 26th dec. she has been complaining of: 1) extreme pain and discomfort overall especially the suture area, 2) has swollen legs since few days, 3) gets bad dreams while sleeping and wakes up in shock quite often (almost trauma like).

I am very concerned and unsure what she is not doing or doing it incorrectly. She has been advised to take hifenac-d twice a day for the pain. But little help so far.

Can you please advise for each of the above.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
She require medication as well as psychological support.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Congratulation!

Thanks once again for writing to us.

I can understand your concern here.

I have gone through her problems and these are my opinion about it.

1) Pain on suture line can be due to nerve pain, stretching or due to infection, so she should consult her gynecologist and get herself examined and take an antidepressant, pain killer after consulting her.

2) Swelling over leg can be due to fluid retention so she should take walk (slow), low salt diet, drink a lot of water, elevate her leg during sitting and lying and check for her blood pressure.

3) It can be due to post surgery trauma (physical and psychological) - give her your support and reassurance that everything is fine, involve her in baby care and talk to her about her feeling.

She should choose a healthy and balanced diet and give her mental and physical support to recover fast (because every person respond differently after surgery).

Hope it is helpful, feel free to ask more.

Good luck.
