Suggest Remedy For Frequent Stools With Acid Reflux And Irritation Of Esophagus

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: Passing solid stool 6 times a day, mild acid reflux, mild irritation of the esophagus, healing ulcer found in endoscope, large appetite but can't eat too much without filling full, rashes all over body, and white streaks with bumps on back of tongue none in the front of tongue.

My questions are if this white tongue is related to acid reflux irritation how long before it disappears, if it is thrush related and not acid related at all, and if the ulcer was found already healing does that mean the infection is gone or suppressed and could the rashes be the side effect of Carafate or Nexium.

Brief Answer:
Yes, due to gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal
I have read your query.

I think that the white tongue is due to the gastritis.
We will have to control your gastritis completely before it heals.
I read you are already taking Nexium. If you are taking it once a day, I suppose taking it twice a day will be a good idea.
In addition, I would suggest my patients an additional medicine as Syr Sucralfate. This will be important. As the Sucralfate will help heal the ulcer faster.

Also, increase the volume of fluid intake.

As for the healiing of the ulcers-
That means your medicines are working. But they still need to continue. It tells us nothing about the acid produced or the infection ( i am guessing H pylori ). SO continue the antibiotics for H pylori as suggested. Neksium may have to be taken over a longer period to keep the acid controlled, so that acid doesnt recur once medicines are stopped.

As for rashes, Nexium is known to be a safe medicine, it contains esomeprazole and is usually a very very safe drug. Similarly carafte (sucralfate) is usually safe but causes the feeling of bloating of stomach. Its probably best to meet the docs once for ruling out some food based allergy.

I would also suggest anti H pylori antibiotics. However, since they are prescription drugs, I will suggest you discuss the issue with the good doctor at your convenience

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Please feel free to contact us for further information on any related topic. Best of luck

The ulcer was actually healing before the endoscope is why I am curious about that one.

The symptoms that terrify me most are the white tongue, bloating, and indigestion. What tests could rule out Candida and can any doctor do it?

I meant before they prescribed the Nexium and Carafate.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am glad to hear from you.

I have already stated. The bloating can be due to the medicine you are on. So you need not worry. That medicine is needed temporarily till ulcer heals completely.

The white tongue can be due to acidity. Candida usually affect the people who are immunocompromised. From the query, I don't think you have given such a history. Still if you are worried, you can start candid mouth paint twice daily for 7 days.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck.
