Question: I had my health check-up blood work done on Dec 07, 2014 (fuzail_healthProfile_Dec07_2014.pdf, page 4).In it it was reported that below LFT parameters were reported as high

TEST NAME METHOD VALUE UNITS NORMAL RANGE
BILIRUBIN - TOTAL PHOTOMETRY 1.4 mg/dl 0.30 - 1.20
BILIRUBIN -DIRECT PHOTOMETRY 0.52 mg/dl 0 - 0.20
ASPARTATE AMINOTRANSFERASE (SGOT )PHOTOMETRY 42.8 U/l M: 0 to 37 - F: 0 to 31
ALANINE TRANSAMINASE (SGPT) PHOTOMETRY 109.8 U/l M: 13 to 40 - F: 10 to 28

HDL CHOLESTEROL - DIRECT PHOTOMETRY 31 mg% 35-80
TC/ HDL CHOLESTEROL RATIO CALCULATED 5.4 Ratio 3.0 - 5.0

I was put on Udiliv 600mg twice a day and Antoxid once a day. Also, i was taking Homoeopathic medicine along with Himalaya Liv 52 tablets and Seven Seas capsule. I stopped taking meat and chicken. I started taking lots of salads and milk. Stopped rice and mainly was eating vegetables. Today i got my LFT done again and report is attached (LFT_021914_Fuzail_36Y_Male). Again we report few parameters in high range

TEST NAME METHOD VALUE UNITS NORMAL RANGE
BILIRUBIN - TOTAL Diazo Method 1.13 mg/dl 0.00 - 1.10
BILIRUBIN -DIRECT Diazo Method 0.85 mg/dl 0.00 - 0.80
ALANINE TRANSAMINASE (SGPT) IFCC 92.5 U/l M: 0.0 to 40.0

Although BILIRUBIN - TOTAL and BILIRUBIN -DIRECT are almost in range of upper limit. SGPT is still almost twice the upper limit. What all precaution i need ot take and medication to bring it within normal range. Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Hello Mr Fuzail, Need not worry.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thank you for the query.
I understand your concern.
Well likely what you have is non alcoholic steato hepatitis.
Also the values are mildly deranged and showing a downward trend, so your efforts seem to be working.
So you need to continue them, in addition try following things,
1) Stop alcohol if any
2) get your self checked for hepatitis B and C
3) Reduce weight
4) Avoid unnecessary medications
5) Cut down on high calorie food and oily foods
6) exercise regularly

With this continue antoxid and udiliv as advised.
All this will slowly help in reducing the liver enzymes, though they may fluctuate some time initially.
But if abnormality persist then need to rule out rare causes of liver disease by consulting a gastroenterologist.
Hope this answers your query.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
Best wishes.
