Question: saw doctor for indigestion and heartburn - saw specialist - prescribed with nexium - working well. full lab work shows normal blood counts but elevated " lymphocytes"- according to DR> could be infection , etc . ruled out mono.i am concerned about blood cancer , etc.

retesting in a month

no enlarged nodes
I am picking up copies of lab results for counts - I know there is a difference between relative count and absolute count of lymphocytes .

month is a long time to be thinking about this .

advice ?

Brief Answer:
Please upload the report

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I am Dr.Barani and I am pleased to assist you.

Elevated lymphocytes are mostly suggestive of infection. Still I would like to see the counts. Please upload the complete report here.

Also let me know:
When were these tests done?
What symptoms other than indigestion and heartburn you had?

Regards,
Dr.Barani

2 months of indigestion , heartburn , bloating , gas - just not feeling well . went to gastro and GP - stomach issues subsided this week almost entirely . I was starting to feel a little better and then nexium and has stopped the hb. very slight sinus / cough for about a week or so.

so , I went to the doctors last week with those symptoms ( which were already getting better ) - but not gone - - got a flu shot in one arm , tetnus shot in the other . did not feel that great this weekend ( stomach felt queezy). got the full blood work on Tuesday AM.

feel better except concerned about this retest on blood work.

I will get the specific results - I don't have them yet- but I was told over the phone that white blood cell count was OK - it was the lymphocyte that was off- not sure if that meant absolute , relative or both.

I was wondering about the possible affect of the flu shot and/or the possibility of the affect of a stomach virus that is lingering ( h plyori ?)

Brief Answer:
Infection/ transient elevation due to flu shot

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.

Only after seeing the report I can give a definite answer.

But with the information you have given, all I can say is it is more probably be due to infection only.

Yes , transient rise in lymphocytes can occur after a flu shot.
H.pylori is not virus. It is a type of bacteria and it does not increase the lymphocyte count.

Since the total count is normal, I do not think you have anything serious.

Let us wait for the lab reports.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards,
Dr.Barani
