Suggest Remedy For Itchy Vaginal Yeast Infection While Recovering From Bronchial Infection

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Apr 2015
Question: I have pulmonary fibrosis. After a bronchial infection in January I felt I had a vaginal yeast infection and was prescribed diflucan by phone. Symptoms appeared again a few weeks ago and I used an over the counter suppository and topical cream. Still having some itching - mostly in anal area and also passing some mucus. No vaginal discharge. Could this still be a yeast infection?

Brief Answer:
Consult the gynecologist and investigate further

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM
This is Dr Amit. Let me help you in this case Diflucan (fluconazole) is an antifungal medicine. It is used to treat infections caused by fungus, which can invade any part of the body including the mouth, throat, genital area, and the blood.Diflucan is also used to prevent fungal infection in people with weak immune systems caused by another preexisting conditions like pulmonary fibrosis.
As per my knowledge the main reason for the infection is atrophic vaginitis (a thinning of the vaginal walls with menopause) which is quite common in older women and use of suppositories flared up the infection.
Main presentation of yeast infection is curdy white discharge with itching around the private parts. But it is not necessary to have vaginal discharge in every cases.
So I will advise you to consult gynecologist. He/she will conclude the diagnosis by taking case history, doing physical examination and if necessary then other tests like Pelvic ultrasound. Treatment can be vary according to type of infection.
Hope I have given satisfactory answer to your question
Feel free to ask if you have any other doubts
