Suggest Remedy For Left Sided Pain On Face And Dizziness

Posted on Sat, 29 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, I am concerned about my 91-year-old father. He doesn't want to go to the emergency room. He has pain in the left side of his face, some dizziness (not too unusual for him) and double vision. He is also very tired and says he is cold (not unusual for him). The AC in the house is set at 79 degrees, so it is not cold in the house. Should I insist he go to a walk-in clinic or the ER? Thanks

Brief Answer:
You should take him to a doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your history and taking into consideration the age of your father, a stroke/ CVA must be ruled out. A neurological exam would be required to look for any focal neurological deficit. Investigations such as CT scan can be advised in light of the physical exam findings. Blood sugar and electrolytes including potassium and calcium can also be ordered. In short, you should take him to an E.R soon.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
