Question: Hi I just had a yearly physical with the usual blood work. Everything came back normal except my dr said my alkaline phosphate levels were border line and we should redo the test in two months. She said it's not a cause for concern but everything I read seems to be bad

Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

Considering the fact that you don't have any symptom and the other testes were normal ,it doesn't seem to be of concern.
The level of ALP can be slightly over the upper limit if normal range ,even in healthy people this because the values of ALT considered normal range are determined taking in consideration the majority of the population .So in a specific population ,the majority of healthy people will have a level of ALP,and this is considered normal range. This doesn't include a minority that can have a level of ALP slightly over this range.

When an abnormal ALP is noted, the degree of elevation is very important. If ALP is only slightly over normal range and all other tests are normal ,it is not of concern and just a repeat measurement after few months can be necessary.

If the cause of elevated ALP would be a serious problem , the grade of elevation would be significant and you also would have clinical symptoms and other abnormal tests.

Try to relax and don't think bad things.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any question.

Kind regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati
