Cause for your symptoms may not be low blood sugar level.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.
First I want to discuss hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) usually blood sugar level below 70 in the presence of symptoms of low blood sugar level is labeled as hypoglycemia.
Usual symptoms of hypoglycemia are restlessness, sweating, palpitations (heart pounding), abnormal hunger and in serious cases patient can become unconscious.
All these symptoms get relieved after taking calorie containing food.
If there is no calorie intake patient usually land up in unconsciousness.
So abnormal sleepiness with blood sugar level of 158 is not related to hypoglycemia.
Also Tab Glucophage contain Metformin it act on insulin resistance and very rarely cause hypoglycemia when used alone.
In such case I may advise to evaluate for other causes of abnormal sleepiness.
There is a need for detailed history taking and neurological examination.
Need to exclude Obstructive sleep Apnea.
I may advise following investigations-
- Haemogram.
- T3, T4, TSH.
- Renal Function Test.
- Liver Function Test.
- Vitamin B12 level.
- HbA1c.
After clinical examination there may be need for Sleep Study.
Hope this helps you.
I will be happy to answer your follow up question, if any.
Otherwise close the question and rate the answer.
Regards,
Dr. Abhay Mali.
Diabetologist.
