Brief Answer:
inflammatory response

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Masses occur most commonly as a result of trauma or infection.

Both of these can cause inflammation and swelling occurs as part of the inflammatory response.

The lymph nodes are found in the groin area, they can also become inflamed.

If there is no history of direct or indirect trauma then infection is most likely. Infection can be associated with pain, increased warmth or redness in the area.

The use of an anti inflammatory pain killer would help to relieve any pain. Examples are naproxen, ibuprofen, cataflam. One of these should be available at your local pharmacy.
Should be used after a meal or fluids to prevent any inflammation of the stomach.

It would be best to visit your doctor in the am to determine exactly what the lump may be.
This can only be definitively determined by physical examination of the area.

If it is an infection then antibiotics would be needed.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
