Suggest Remedy For Muscle Pain In Hamstrings And Sleeplessness
Question: Dr. Rynne,
A little over 2 weeks ago, my Urologist switched be to every day 5 mg Cialis medication from Finasteride and Tamsulosin. Shortly thereafter I started to have severe hamstring mustle cramps and pain when I exercise walking or riding the stationary bike even though I have exercised routinely forever without pain or injury. The pain is prevented by wearing compression sleeves while I exercise. A week ago, my primary care doctor switched me from Chlorthalidone 1/2 tablet a day to Hydrochlorothiazide. Since that time in addition to the localized muscle pain in my hamstrings, I have developed all over body pain, chills, trembling, anxiety and sleeplessness, even though i take supplements Vitamin D, Potassium and Magnesium. Could I be having adverse reactions to these medications and if I stopped using them, how long would it be before the symptoms should disappear.

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
You are reporting to have:
- severe hamstring muscle cramps
- pain when you exercise, walking or riding
They are indicating adverse effects of Cialis. You should be reported this to the doctor who prescribed to you.
- all over body pain, chills trembling, anxiety and sleeplessness after start using hydrochlorothiazide. They are all possible side effects of hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ).
I also advise you should consult with your physician who prescribed HCTZ to you to re-evaluate your current symptoms and change therapy.
However, my opinion is that all the symptoms (overall) you are experiencing is from Cialis. You have been under stress as starting to use HCTZ because you are anxious about its effects. However, Cialis is bringing more problems than HCTZ as long as you are taking the above-mentioned supplements and increasing water intake.
