Question : My husband is an insulin dependent diabetic. The last month, he has been treated for staph infection in his hands. He's had diahhrea, constipation, then diahhrea again. He is very weak, confused, has dark urine, nausea and vomiting. He doesn't want to go to the doctor, but I am at the end of my rope.

Brief Answer:
Antibiotic induced stomach issues. Needs proper care as under!!!

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for consulting and your trust in HCM means a lot to me as a Physician.
I have completely reviewed your health query, and well realize all those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

Your husband has got antibiotics induced gastrointestinal tract problems i.e. diarrhea alternating with constipation.

Actually there is a colony of friendly bacteria in our gut named as Gut Flora. They reside in gut and are beneficial in digestive system. Antibiotics can't demarcate amongst those beneficial and the pathogenic disease causing bacteria for which we take the medication in the first place. So, the beneficial human gut friendly bacteria are killed too and leaves the Gut tract working not normally leading to indigestion (diarrhea).

Now you have to rehydrate him completely. Giving Pedialyte oral rehydration solution, Citrucel dietary fiber supplement with plenty of water is the essential in treatment.

Medications guide:-
Given Imodium for diarrhea after asking a script for his medications from front desk of his doctor office. Plus Pantoprazole/Levosulpiride is necessary for proper gut motility and normal stomach function. Ondansetron for vomiting. Give him a bland diet and add light food slowly. Afterwards add seafood, vegetables, nuts and least spicy foods. No caffeinated drinks and chocolates. He will be fine soon.

Hope I answered all of your queries. Let me know if you have further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you.
