Question : My question, I have child t 17 years now. At the age 12 begin having problem with stomach he could not hold any food down. He was going back and forward to the doctor no one could give me answer to what was going on with him. Well to make a long story short. He end up being hosiptalize. He had to have a feeding tube. This was back in 2009. After a few he was hospitalize, he begin having other problem occuring . We do not know what they give my son but he was not able walk by himself. and then from then he begin having this jerky eye movement and then it got worse this will last 3 to 4 hours straight. They done a spine tap on my son. he can out paralze from his waist down. he was paralze the doctors can not tell me what cause this my son lose 70 percent of hearing . Overall, when my son was release after 2 months from the hospital we were sent move with no diagnose. My son could not go back to school he has been on homeschool since 2009 . My son can walk now he has his hearing back. But he is stiling wiith problems he has internal burning inside of his head that he experience everyday. This burning cause him to loss memory he has nerve damage from seizure that he was having in the hospital that will last 3 to 4 hours straight. I have been searach from answer to has cause his illness my son have not a normal life for years. please help

Although the details are sketchy, I think I can precisely make out the problem. The problems were probably present right from the birth and subsequently intensified by the time he became 12 years of age. At birth he had suffered from lack of oxygen subsequent to which CPAP was given for respiratory support. It is a lower form of ventilation. The damage that had occurred to the brain, can be detected even now if an MRI is done. It has lead to lack of control over the muscles. The brain in a normal case inserts an inhibitory action on the muscles. Hence when the brain is damaged, the tone of the muscles increases. This seems to be the cause that necessitated feeding tube. It also calls for regular physical therapy. Subsequent to this, as the brain loses control over the spine, paralysis can set in.

There is not much left to be done at present. Early detection in his infancy followed by early intervention was essential for a positive outcome. As the damage progressed, the scope of intervention kept reducing.

I understand that it is very painful to see one suffere like this. But you need to understand that it is already beyond the stage when things could be done.
