Suggest Remedy For Pain After Knee Arthroscopy

Question: i had knee arthroscopy a month ago. I am still experiencing pain, especially if I walk for a more than 3o mins. Occasionally t=my knee swells, and I had to rest with ice on it. I am 65, a female. Can I benefit from a steroid injection? What else can I do: I have to travel very soon.

I have studied your case.

Yes you may get relief by steroid injection. Effect of injection may remain for 6 months to few yrs.

Till time continue knee Range of motion exercise, active and against resistance.
Strengthening Exercises: Do quadriceps strengthening static exercises, Straight leg raises, hip adduction and abduction, ¼ and/or ½ squats
Active assisted ROM stretching, emphasizing full knee extension (flexion to tolerance).

Physiotherapy like ultrasound and TENS may help you.

If no relief then you will again need investigation like MRI and BLOOD COUNT.

Thank you. Let me clarify one thing. My main symptom is pain but also strange feeling that my knee and lower part of my leg are twisted with respect to the upper leg. Will you recommend steroid injection? Is there a probability that steroid injection could increase the discomfort level instead of decreasing it?

You should be aware of limitations of steroid injection and its complication.

Steroid injection will not help in healing of any torn soft tissue structure.Injection will only reduce inflammation and pain.

Initially for 2 days there can be pain after steroid injection but later on it may reduce.

Duration for pain relief after steroid injection may vary with patient.

If no relief with medication and physiotherapy then you can go for injection.
