Suggest Remedy For Pain After Tear In The Peroneus Brevis Tendon

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: I fell 1/2/14 and injured my ankle. I felt a snap in the peroneal tendon area. The MRI showed nothing in that area but I had a torn tibiofibular ligament and a fracture of the posterior malleolus. It has been 15 months and I am still having the majority of my pain in the peroneal tendon area. Thats the only place that swells and I feel like it is going to snap when I walk downstairs. I recently had another MRI the radiologist reported a longitudinal tear in the peroneus brevis tendon with invagination of the longus into the tear. The ortho doc I see says he doesn't see either of those. I have had the same issue for over a year. I have been immobilized and done therapy. I am very active and I just want it fixed, but mostly I want to know why they aren't finding the issue.

Brief Answer:
A second opinion can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A tear in the peroneus brevis tendon can cause a persistent pain and it is a difficult thing to detect clinically. If the radiologist has reported a tear then there is likely to be a tear. If your treating orthopedician cannot see the tear then you need to take a second opinion from another orthopedician. The persistent pain in the area means the tear has not healed. This may need a surgical repair for a pain free life.
I hope this answers your query.
