Question: i have been diagnosed with PCOS and since 4 months i am on ginette 35. the first two months (of taking medicine) went fine as my doctor said bleeding would be scanty, it was so. but the 3rd month the bleeding wasnt scanty but normal i would say. and the 4th month the bleeding was normal (again not very scanty) for the first 4 days but on the 5th day i started to get clots that were initially 1 inches and then they went upto 3-4 inches on the 6th day morning. i also have light constant pain which is bearable but causes uneasiness. its freaking me out. can it b because of the BCP ? its freaking me out. plz help

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I would like to know in case you have had any ultrasound in recent past and in case yes then can you please upload the report and if not then in my opinion you need to get one
Your history is suggestive of endometrial hypeeplasia which is common in PCOD or some fibroid in uterus or an ovarian cyst.
And in case ultrasound is normal then just take tablet tranexemic acid for control of bleeding and see the response which in case gets controlled then nothing much to worry about.
But in case this clotting problem recurrs in subsequent cycles then you will need to change from ginette 35 to some other pill combination with higher estrogen content and a different progesterone formulation.

yes i did had an ultrasound while i was being diagnosed for PCO. the ultrasound report said the following: bulky uterus (8.2x4.6x2.6 cms in size) with bulky left ovary (volume 10.9cc). this was done in XXXXXXX 2015.

Brief Answer:
Repeat Ultrasound advised

Detailed Answer:
Alright then a volume of 11 cc almost of one ovary is very high and thus you definitely need a repeat scan for assessment of the size of uterus and ovarian volume.
Get a scan done and then we can discuss further management and till then take tranexemic acid three times a day till flow stops.
There is in general nothing to worry but you will need a change from ginette 35 to another BCP.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Sorry for the delay in reply as I got struck in an emergency surgery.
I understand your anxiety related to the issue but there is nothing to worry as it is a common thing to have irregular periodic pattern and erratic flow patterns in patients with PCOD.
Right now just take tranexemic acid and let the bleeding stop this time and get an ultrasound which will guide us about the reason behind change in flow pattern.
In case Ultrasound is normal (most likely) then nothing else needs to be done except for the change in drug from ginette to other BCP.
So all in all nothing to worry and just relax.

Take care
