Question : I have pain in the Achilles tendon months after taking erythromycin(?). Could this or other antibiotic have caused this problem. I remember reading this as a side effect but may not have the name of the correct drug I took. If not and with no injury, what could be the cause and possible treatment?
Brief Answer:
Tendonitis likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Taking erythromycin is not likely to cause a pain in the achilles tendon months after taking the antibiotic. This is more likely to be due to a mild inflammation of the tendon due to overuse. Rest, hot compress, elastic bandage and taking a mild pain killer or muscle relaxant will help.
I hope this answers your query.
