Suggest Remedy For Pain In Buttocks And Thigh Muscles

Posted on Tue, 28 Apr 2015
Question: For the past month I have developed pain in my butt muscles and thigh muscles. So much that getting up and down are becoming painful. I also have had pain in both my hands, especially thumbs and forefingers. The two are probably totally unrelated, but they started at the same time. I am 48 and relatively active, although I don't have an exercise routine. I am maybe 30 pounds over what I should (165). The pain began after I was working a fundraiser. I stood most of the day on cement. It really wasn't all that strenuous, but I was sore. I have had some life issues that have led to some moderate depression. That is what my husband thinks is causing the pain. I don't know. I have been to a chiropractor and he has given me stretches, but no amount of stretching seems to help.

Brief Answer:
need evaluation before considering depression as the cause..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You seem to have polyarthralgia like condition which is common at this age. This polyarthralgia may be related to depression. However before considering it as 'the cause' we need to rule out other organic medical problems. It can be ruled out with simple tests such as:
1. Serum calcium levels.
2. Serum Uric acid levels.
3. RA factor
4. ESR and CRP
5. Serum Creatinine
6. X-ray of affected joints.

I routinely order for the above investigations to patients with symptoms similar to yours. Your local physician / orthopedician will know about it.

Until you get this sorted, you can use over the counter pain killer and hot fomentation along with local analgesic gel application for symptom relief.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care
