Question : I recently had a root canal in a molar on my right lower side. Afterwards, I was still in pain and noticed something irritating protruding from my gum (tongue side). The endodentist told me it was bone, gave me a rinse and some Motrin and told me he needed to consult with the doctor who did the root canal. I saw the x-rays and my teeth look fine. What would cause this bone to break the skin and what can be done about it? the doctor acted like we just have to wait to see if the gum "heals" over but this doesn't seem right. Meanwhile, the exposed bone is making it difficult to eat and talk due to the irritation. Help!!!

                                    Brief Answer:
Can be abscess due to problem in RCT
Detailed Answer:
Hi
thanks for writing in.
I went through your query & as per my view it cannot be bony protrusion.
Before making final diagnosis I would like to ask you whether its hard or soft???
Secondly is it fixed or movable??
If its soft or movable then it can be abscessed tooth due to faulty Root Canal Treatment.
Can you upload your x-rays so that i can make proper diagnosis & rule out abscess?
Your answer is awaited
Wishing you good health

It is hard and not moveable. I don't have my X-rays, but I looked at them in the office. The endodentist ruled out abscess. No sign of infection. The roots on the tooth look fine. How could bone become exposed during a root canal? Along with being irritating, it can't be good to have exposed bone! If that is exactly what it is, what would be the fix? I don't like the "wait and see" option but do not relish the idea of surgery either.

Use gum paint or go for surgery
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Root Canal Treatment never exposes bone.Still if your doctor suggests its the same reason then firstly do gum massage, if problem doesnt resolve then flap surgery is only option.
