Question: I have had double radiation for prostate cancer, consequently my veins, without support sox, appear like a road map up and down my legs and feet. I am continually stretching my muscles to make them work better. They are are painful without the exercise and make walking more difficult. My question is, do you think I may already have underlying blood clots. I was tested by a eurologist who told me some of my leg veins were not working. Thank you. XXXXXXX .

Brief Answer:
you are more likely to be having blood clots

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. You are having varicose veins. It may be due to some of your valves in your veins are likely to be incompetent, so making venous return disturbance. It may also be as a consequence of double radiation making venous return disturbances. About blood clots it can't be said whether you have or not but you are more likely to be having as compared to normal person. This can be confirmed by Doppler ultrasound or Venography. These varicose veins can be treated by elastic bandage, regular exercises of calf muscle . You can get assessed by general surgeon and possible operative intervention may benefit you.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
