Suggest Remedy For Pain In Throat Post An Accident

I am breathing completely normally. Eating is fine no problem swallowing but I did seem to have a bit more pain after I ate. The only symptoms I have are that it feels a bit difficult to talk and pain deep in my throat.
I do have hyperthyroidism but I can feel the pain is above my thyroid and not in that area. It feels more where my voice box/adams apple is.
I was wondering if I am breathing fine what tests would the ER do if I was to go there? Could it just be bruised and sore in the area and rest might be all it needs? What kind of serious problems could the impact have caused?
Thanks
can assess for damage, assess oxygen levels
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
In terms of testing, this would involve physical examination of the neck and also taking a look into the throat to assess damage either with a normal light/scope or more invasive scoping if needed.
If there is difficulty breathing, they may also be able assess to see if there is sufficient oxygen in the blood, this can be done by a small machine called a pulse oximeter which is placed on the fingers.
This would be done if there is any indication that you are having difficulty. The most serious potential complications are :(1) injury to the trachea (windpipe) resulting in swelling and closure- would present in difficulty breathing or harsh breath sounds, coughing blood
(2)injury to the vocal cords-hoarseness
(3)injury to the esophagus- may cause pain/difficulty swallowing, may be drooling due to problems swallowing saliva
If there is no shortness of breath, pain on breathing or any of the symptoms mentioned then pain is likely only minor soft tissue damage .The use of an anti inflammatory pain medication, once you can use them, may work for you and you can monitor.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
