Question: I've been battleling with zuska disease on my right beasts for a little over year now. After 3 surgeries which includes wound packing it loos like it is starting to come back. I am soo frustrated, is there any solution to this problem besides surgery. I hate having to go through the operation again, yet I am also left with scar tissue that is quit tender at this point.

Brief Answer:
No alternative to Surgery ...

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.

Zuska's Disease is sometimes difficult to treat and known to come back.
There must be a cause, which is not allowing it to subside:
The possible causes have to be found out, which may be a different duct getting blocked or incomplete removal of the previous tract and so on.

Most of the cases can be treated with proper antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines. I hope you are already taking some.

I would suggest you the following:
Get a High resolution ultrasonography or still better MRI Study to evaluate a problem. This will help the surgeon to know the extent of the disease so that if surgery is needed the Surgeon knows beforehand and complete excision of the tract can be undertaken.

Get a second opinion of another Surgeon and request him to remove the whole tract, the tissues under the areola and ductal tissues within the nipple.

It is my thought that for the fear of cosmetic results the previous surgery would have been incomplete. You have to discuss this in detail with your Surgeon and request him to remove the whole disease without compromise: OF course for this your understanding is the most important about the possible disfiguration. This Surgery will also remove the previous tender scar.
Take multivitamins as they act as anti-oxidants. Vitamin A and D in therapeutic dosage help for a good recovery.

About your query ::
Is there any solution besides surgery. If antibiotic treatment fails, surgery is the only solution.

I hope this answer helps you for proper decision making and complete recovery this time.

Please feel free to ask for more if you need to or if you feel there is a gap-of-communication.
