Suggest Remedy For Palpitation And Nausea While Taking Paroxetine

Question: Hello. Can you help please? I had been taken Citalopram 20mg for the best part of 5 years for panic disorder and GAD. The anxiety got worse mid-June and my GP suggested I switched to Paroxetine. I took these for three weeks and had very strong side effects and so I went back to the GP three weeks later and we agreed that Paroxetine wasn’t for me. A CBT approach with medication was agreed as maybe being a better longterm approach. She suggested I take a week's supply of 10mg Citalopram to finish with. I have had no Citalopram for 28 days now. That was background information that might be relevant. At the same time as I started taking Pareoxetine in late XXXXXXX I started to experience a strange symptom which is difficult to describe. If I move my eyes, I have a disconcerting sensation that makes if feel like my heart has stopped for a few moments, accompanied by a split second of faintness in my head. If I move my eyes rapidly, it feels like my heart iis having a series of palpitations; it’s actually very unpleasant makes me nauseous. This has been happening every few minutes for over 8 weeks now and despite two visits to my GP (where they can’t understand or diagnose the issue), doesn’t seem to go away. It gets worse as the day goes on and by the evening I have a headache. Do you have any idea what this might be please? Any help gratefully received. Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Hii

Detailed Answer:
Hii

I admire you for positive outlook.

I understand your concern ab. Side effect.

Escitalopram and paroxetine both are SSRI.
selective seretonin reuptake inhibitor.

If you have side effect related escitalopram then it is most likely that you do not tolerate paroxetine.

2nd thing sometime abrupt cessation and start new drug may cause all this symptoms in intial for few days.

So ideal therapy is gradually start in low dose like start low and go slow.

The symtoms that have you described that are similar to panic disorder so it is difficult to differentiate between this two.

There are many other good drugs available for GAD and panic disorder.

Take advise from your psychiatrist about desvelnaflaxine , opipramol, pregabaline etc.

CBT is the one of the good psychotherapy and it will work gradually and you have to stick on it for 3 months.
Active participation is must.

Still if you have a query then feel free to ask.

Thank you.

Take care.

Thank you very much for your answer and advice.
My panic attacks were never as weird as this.
It is the feeling in the heart that worries me most.
So are these symptoms part of discontinuing Citalopram?
Many thanks

Brief Answer:
Hi thanx for revert back.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear

Serotonin withdrawal produce same kind of symptoms that can be due to discounting escitalopram.

But as I said it may side effect of paroxetine as you have faced it earlier with escitalopram.

So please discuss it with your psychiatrist.

If possible than select some other group of drug means other than SSRI.

Countinue for CBT.

Hope you will get best.

Get well soon.

Take care.
