Question: My father (60+) keeps getting loose motions almost every other month. His appetite has dropped. And he has lost a lot of weight.
This has been happening from last one year.

His thyroid test came out normal.
What kind of doctor should we go to and what tests should we get done?

Brief Answer:
Get stool microscopy and culture,

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM
I have gone through your query.

Kindly get stool microscopy and stool culture done.
Does he have any medical history?
How many times in a day this happen?

Is there any nausea and or vomiting associated with it.
Does he have acidity.

Presently I would suggest you to make him eat healthy diet which is rich in fibre, I would have waited for the report of the investigation and would have decided on the medication.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your answer. There is no nausea or vomiting associated with it. He does get acidity easily but not necessarily associated with loose motions.

Loose motions come almost every second month, and typically last 2-3 days. Happens 4-6 times a day

He has always been prone to upset stomach but last couple of years it only got worse. .
