Suggest Remedy For Persistent Headaches

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Aug 2015
Question: I have been experiencing headaches lately which I attributed to menopause, but I keep getting them right at the top left part of my orbital bone and when I press on it the pain amplifies then reduces when I let go. There also appears to be either a little bump or some inflammation on the right side at that point, in a little indention of the bone. Not sure if it's tissue, a nerve or a lump on the bone. .

I just posted a jpeg of a pic of where the lump/pain is located. It's just on the right eye socket. Or rather, the headache is one of those headaches where it's largely right between the eyes, and you press into your eye sockets on either side of the bridge of the nose for relief, only now, when I press on the right eye socket there, it hurts and there's a little lump or swelling....it's small, and I can't tell if it's bone or tissue that's hurting. It's not a knot or anything really defined. Not like a beebee or a grain of sand or anything like that. It may be inflammation that's sore or a nerve that's bugging me there and there may be a natural little lumpiness to the bone there, not sure, but the headache pain goes from like a 2-3 to a 4-5 when I press on it.

Brief Answer:
Not related to hormonal changes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The headaches that you are having specially on the front of the head that aggravates on pressing near eye sockets is likely to be due to sinus infection- sinusitis or anxiety or a weak eyesight. It is less likely to be due to hormonal changes due to menopause.
To rule out any sinus infections, you should get an ENT examination along with transillumination test of sinuses or x-ray sinuses done. Do consult your physician to rule out other causes of such a headache. Till then you can take a mild pain killer, decrease caffeine intake and stay calm.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

What do you think might be causing that small bump against or on the orbital bone? I don't feel like I have sinus problems at all. I have the headache, but my sinuses seem clear with no inordinate or excessive mucosa.

I do wear glasses and am photosensitive...go inside and outside multiple times during the day so the light really changes dramatically on me and I also take my glasses off and put them back on numerous times during the day and I have noticed that can cause strain on my eyes, but this is relatively new and other than those few bouts of migranes during pregnancy and my youth, I've not really been a headachy person in a general sense. If it weren't for that bump in there I wouldn't be concerned, I would have just chocked it up to hormone fluxuations.

Thank you for your time and expertise.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to eye strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The small bump can be a harmless benign bone island. It is not likely to cause the headache. It is more likely to be due to eye strain or photosensitivity.
Hope my answer is helpful.

so the 'bone island' wouldn't normally hurt when you press on it, but what am I pressing on that's right there which does increase my pain? Would it just be the nerve that's already giving me a headache from eye strain? I'm confused. The headaches come and go. I don't have one now and I have only taken the one asprin today which was a low-dose aspirin, and I took it at about 10:30 in the morning, it's now 11:00 pm at night here. I just want to know why it hurts more when I touch it.

Brief Answer:
Can be an inflamed nerve.

Detailed Answer:
Since the pain increases on pressure, it can be an inflamed nerve or a small lymph node in the area. Sinus infection can also cause a tenderness on deep palpation. A direct examination by a physician will help in detecting the cause.
